Checkout is the single most important step on an e-commerce site, yet 70% of customers abandon the process right at this stage. So how can we improve the checkout experience? Here are 8 tips we've put together for you.
70% of customers abandon their cart during checkout. The biggest reasons behind this are unexpected additional costs (60%), mandatory account creation (37%), and having to go through too many extra steps.

How Can You Improve Your Checkout Process?
Let Customers See the Total Cost as Early as Possible: Include costs like VAT and other taxes directly in the displayed price. If shipping fees apply, show them right alongside the product price.
Let Customers Check Out Without Creating an Account: Collecting account information can be valuable, but if requiring an account is hurting sales, you should offer guest checkout as an option. 37% of customers abandon their purchase specifically because of mandatory account creation.

Reduce the Number of Steps and Fields Required During Checkout: Remove unnecessary fields like title, middle name, or a second address line. Combine first and last name into a single field. Auto fill the postal code where possible. Aim to keep the total number of fields customers need to fill out to no more than 6 to 8.
Show a Clear Overview of the Checkout Process: Break checkout into distinct steps and clearly indicate where the customer currently is in the process. Keep shipping and payment steps clearly separated.
Offer a Range of Payment Methods: Provide options like cash on delivery, İyzico, PayPal, and other payment methods, along with installment payment options.
Make It Easy to Update Quantities or Remove Items From the Cart: Updating quantity, size, or color should be simple and intuitive.
Show Customers Your Site Is Secure: Use icons and visual cues to reassure customers that your site is safe. Clearly indicate SSL encrypted payment, and make return buttons easy to find.

Make "Checkout," "Complete Purchase," and "Continue Shopping" Buttons Highly Visible: These are some of the most important buttons on your entire site, so make sure they stand out clearly. Add a cart icon to the top right corner of every page.
