Applications of AI in E-Commerce

I wanted to share a summary of a three-hour presentation I gave on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI, both incredibly popular topics right now.
To start, AI is already part of our lives in many ways:
Vision Detection: Facial recognition on our phones, defect detection on production lines
Expert Systems: Smart algorithms like the ones behind Netflix
Planning and Optimization: Tools like Yandex or Google Maps
Natural Language Processing: Tools like Siri
Robotics: Nano robots that operate inside the brain, the Chloe robot (Cyberlife's remarkably lifelike android), robots on manufacturing lines
Now, with the creativity unlocked by Generative AI, everyone has the chance to become an artist.
With tools like Dall-E, Midjourney, and other diffusion based AI applications, you can type a single prompt and generate stunning, award winning creative images. The award winning piece "Théâtre D'opéra Spatial" is virtually indistinguishable from many traditionally created artworks.

Artificial intelligence also makes it possible to write highly creative stories, articles, and poems. You could ask ChatGPT to write a self introduction, put together a vegan menu built around a specific vegetable, write a poem about döner kebab, or explain something as complex as "nuclear fusion" in terms an eight year old could understand.
Tools like Google Imagen, Elai.io, and Make-a-Video let you generate video from a single prompt. Microsoft's VALL-E and Speechify, meanwhile, can turn text into speech, and can even mimic and replicate real human voices.
With the new wave of GPT based assistant bots, you can now create your own personal assistant specialized in a specific subject, one you can ask anything about. For example, an AI that's an expert in dog care.
Meta's newly launched virtual chatbots, featuring 30 different celebrities, are set to become an even bigger part of our daily lives this month.
We're going to keep seeing more fascinating AI applications: things like CGI (consumer generated video) and VFX used to create strikingly realistic marketing videos, or even AI powered defense "robots" appearing in courtrooms in the United States.
General Applications of Generative AI in Marketing and E-Commerce:
Brainstorming ideas and generating content
Dynamic content and product development
Chatbots and personalization
Ad optimization
Real time optimization for customer experience
Conversion optimization and campaign optimization
Coding
Virtual try-ons (via AR)
Virtual research and style consultants using synthetic audiences
Fraud detection
It's also worth remembering that social media platforms like Meta and YouTube already use smart algorithms to target and steer our behavior. The Cambridge Analytica scandal is a well known example of how far this can go.
That said, AI has plenty of limitations. Despite its creativity, it can sometimes produce results that are nonsensical or biased, particularly in areas like math. This is why collecting, labeling, and modeling the right data is so critical. AI can also be used to generate fake footage, as we saw during the Russia-Ukraine war.
